What is the Shabbos Project?
The Shabbos Project began in 2013 when Chief Rabbi Dr. Warren Goldstein proposed the idea of encouraging the Jewish community to join together to experience one full Shabbat, in accordance with Jewish law. The Shabbos Project has united Jews from different languages, cultures, backgrounds, geographical locations, and levels of observance. Today, Jews in over 1,688 cities get together annually to experience the beauty of Shabbat.
More information on the Shabbos Project can be found at www.theshabbosproject.org and www.chiefrabbi.co.za/tsp-project.
Why is BZMC involved?
It is our hope to facilitate an event that brings us together and strengthens Jewish pride, identity, and community. We believe we can do this by celebrating a Shabbat together, and we would be honored to have you join us.
The goal of BZMC hosting our own Shabbos Project is to foster a loving environment by which Jewish practices are continued and not forgotten. Everyone is welcome to join us for all these events no matter your level of observance, Jewish and non-Jewish alike. There is a growing love for the Jewish people among the Christian world as well, and our goal is to facilitate Tikkun Olam, repairing the world. We at BZMC feel that it is our duty, no matter how small we are, to repair the world and hope to be bridge builders filling the gap to connect communities that have been estranged over the course of history. Through events like these, the Jewish and Christian worlds can find reconciliation, as well as foster an end to anti-Semitism in the world.
The Shabbos Project has inspired us as a Messianic Jewish Community to come together and be a light to the world, as we are all called to be. Showing love to strangers and friends alike, connecting those who may differ with each other, and a continued unity as people of Hashem are among our objectives.
